Are you contemplating a chemical peel and feeling uncertain if this is the right treatment for you? We’ve gathered many commonly asked questions to help you determine if a peel will fit your skin care needs!
A chemical peel is a procedure that utilizes a customized mix of ingredients, applied to your skin, to enhance and renew its look. This concoction, usually made up of a variety of carefully selected acids and/or enzymes, aids in the exfoliation of dead skin cells and encourages the natural rejuvenation of skin, yielding a smoother, more luminous complexion.
Our patients love the multitude of advantages offered by chemical peels. These treatments tackle various skin issues, such as hyperpigmentation, acne, wrinkles, and irregular skin tone and texture. Chemical peels help to renew your skin, by promoting new skin cell and collagen production, and can help to improve your overall appearance.
It is important that you stop using any retinol-containing products 5-7 days prior to receiving a chemical peel. We also recommend avoiding any sun exposure to the treatment area for 2 weeks prior to a peel. We will provide you with more detailed pre- and post-care instructions in your consultation!
During a chemical peel, our aesthetic providers apply the selected solution to your face or targeted treatment area. Patients tend to tolerate this procedure without difficulty, but the sensation can vary depending on the kind of peel you receive. You might experience a gentle tingle or mild stinging sensation, which is completely normal and part of the skin exfoliation process. This feeling typically subsides shortly after the procedure.
The recovery period after your chemical peel depends on the potency and type of solution applied. With a VI Peel, some individuals might notice mild redness, skin shedding, or peeling in the days following the procedure, though these symptoms typically dissipate within seven to ten days. If you opt for the BioRePeel, you will walk out of your appointment with a nice skin “glow” and can expect a little bit of mild dryness for 2-5 days afterwards. It is critical that you shield your freshly exposed skin by refraining from direct sunlight and using sunscreen with a high SPF for a minimum of one week after the chemical peel session.
A chemical peel, when conducted by skilled practitioners such as our team at Cassie Lane Aesthetics and with strict adherence to after-care guidelines by the patient, has a significantly low risk of complications. We will screen you prior to your treatment to check for any contraindications and send you home with specific aftercare instructions to follow. As always, if you have any questions or concerns after your treatment, we want you to contact us!
