Learn all about microneedling

Microneedling is a specialized treatment available at Cassie Lane Aesthetics of Richmond, Virginia, that allows your body to heal itself with a unique process known as collagen induction therapy. With a handheld device that looks like a pen, our providers will create micro-injuries across the skin. The pen has thin needles that puncture the skin’s upper surface to help your body produce healing factors and improve blood flow to the skin. That boosts the skin’s natural collagen production through the skin’s natural healing process, allowing for skin transformation with time.

What can microneedling help treat?

Microneedling is best for:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Poor skin texture and tone
  • Hyperpigmentation treatment
  • Stretch marks
  • Large pore size
  • Acne and acne scar treatment
  • Hair loss and thinning

Is microneedling painful?

Cassie Lane and her team of aestheticians want patients to feel comfortable during their treatments. With this in mind, we provide a special topical anesthetic cream before performing the procedure to ensure that patients don’t experience much discomfort while undergoing the microneedling treatment session.

How long does microneedling take?

We evaluate the patient, cleanse the skin, and perform the treatment in approximately one hour or less. We find that many patients who are treating just the facial area can have their procedure completed during their lunch hour and return to work with no downtime or interruption to their daily activities.

Microneedling - Cassie Lane Aesthetics

Classic microneedling has been around for a good bit of time and it is also called collagen induction therapy. In doing the treatment, we’re getting collagen production up, so this is a really good treatment for patients who want to improve the appearance of acne scars and large pores. Fine lines bring back life to somewhat dull skin. It is inclusive for all skin types, all patient ages, and really there’s no downtime. We tell patients you might not want to make plans in the hours following, but the next day it’s nearly, I’ll say, it’s very difficult to tell something was done. Yeah, we think for microneedling, the sweet spot is four treatments and we actually have tiers of treatments with microneedling or we can take it up a stab. So we have classic. We can also do microneedling with your own platelet-rich fibrin to get more growth factors going and get stimulation of that collagen even to a further level. And we can also do it with our stem cell exosomes. But yes, typically it is best done in a series of four. So microneedling really could be used anywhere on the body. I think the most common place we see people coming in wanting to address is the face, but certainly, we could use it for lines on the neck. We could use it for lines on the chest, maybe stretch marks for an individual on the body. So really wide, wide range where it can be used. A microneedling appointment is 45 minutes. A large portion of that time is time for numbing and taking photos. So honing back in on things that microneedling can treat, we can use it to be pretty directed at scars and it’s important to know that the younger the scar is the better the potential outcome. So as soon as four weeks after a scar, four weeks of healing of a scar, we can get started with microneedling.
We’re talking about scars from burns, surgical scars, really, you name it, microneedling can be used. The most impressive result to me with microneedling is the change in some of these fine lines, and it’s amazing to line up the picture side by side of before and after just a couple months past, and it’s very clear that there are changes in the skin. We also see this just overall glow and very bright, healthy, young-looking skin. Microneedling as a whole is not very uncomfortable. We numb for about 15 minutes, 15 to 20 minutes, and that brings down the discomfort in a really big way, and I have never had a patient leave and say that it was difficult to handle.

How often do I need to have microneedling done?

To maintain the results of microneedling, it is encouraged that patients have the treatment done monthly for four months, then as recommended afterward. The best results will happen within the first few months and then be maintained with regular treatments at Cassie Lanes Aesthetics.
